The time has come for Toshiba and Nec, the main backers of HD-DVD
format to announce they’re ready for write-once HD-DVD-R disc
mass production.

Their discs can store 15 GB of data, and should be available for
the consumers in the first half of the next year, by the same
time that HD-DVD recorders and PC drives will be also on the
market.

As we all know, HD-DVD fights in a tight competition with Blu-ray
for the “format of the future” title, that also means a
multibillion dollar market as a price for the winner.

Similar blue laser technology stays at the core of both formats,
as the blue laser has a shorter wavelength than the red lasers
used in current DVD equipment, allowing discs to store data at
higher densities needed for high-definition TV and movies.

The advantage that HD-DVD-R disc has over its main competitor,
the Blu-ray disc is it has the same disc structure as the
classic DVD and thus can be manufactured by using the same
production lines. This, for the DVD manufacturers, means they
can start HD-DVD-R mass production at full speed, right away,
with not much additional cost. A replacement stamper is needed
of course and the old dye must be replaced with blue-light
sensitive, resin dye. The new dye was developed in a joint
project of Hayashibara Biochemical Laboratories, Mitsubishi
Kagaku Media/Verbatim and Toshiba Corporation.

But at the same time, Blu-ray competitor has its own advantages,
like superior storing capacity. Toshiba claims it works at this
aspect also, but moving from single-layer discs that are written
at 1x speed, to dual-layer 30GB discs could take several years,
its spokespersons said. Toshiba promised to introduce 20GB
HD-DVD-RW discs by this time next year.

So far, the Blu-ray Disc Association and the HD DVD Promotion
Group have refused to compromise to a unified hybrid format for
the future DVD.

There is a wide variety of screens each one with a choice of
projection surfaces. Selecting the right combination to meet
your needs is important for optimum results.

The following is a guideline for selecting a screen that suits
your application. Although these recommendations will work in
most situations, each must be looked at not as a strict rule,
but rather as a guideline for determine your actual needs based
on your own situation.

Pick the type screen that best suits your particular needs. For
example, choose form front projection or rear projection screens in either
potable, wall or ceiling mounted models in either manual or
electric versions. Generally, if your projection application is
permanent, then wall and ceiling screens are your best choice.
If, however, you find your needs require moving the screen to
different locations then a portable screen is a better
alternative.

Determine the optimum screen size based on room dimensions,
planned audience seating size and arrangement. The rule of thumb
is to fit the screen to the audience-not to the projector.

I recommend the following formula for determining screen size:

· Screen height should be approximately equal to 1/6 the
distance from the screen to the last row of seats, allowing text
to be read and detail to be seen in the projected image.

· Ideally, the first row of seats should be approximately 2
screen heights away.

· The bottom of the screen should be a minimum of 4 feet above
the audience floor, allowing those seated toward the rear of the
audience to see the screen. This may require additional screen
“drop” for ceiling hung screens.

· Select the appropriate format for your projection
application. Common formats are as follows

Common Applications and Aspect Ration Width/Height NTSC Video
1.33

PAL Video 1.33

Letter Box Video 1.85

HDTV Video 1.78

35MM Filmstrip 1.32

2×2 Standard 35MM Double-Frame Slides 1.50

· Choose the screen surface that best suits your projection and
viewing requirements. If the screen will be used for multiple
projection methods, choose the screen surface that meets the
requirements of the lesser performing projection method. For
example, if using a slide projector and a video projector, choose
the screen surface for the video projector since its light
output is generally less than a slide projector.

The world of animation is ever expanding. With innovations in
computer animation, illustration has grown far beyond Saturday
morning cartoons. Animation has evolved into a complex component
of web-design and nearly every element of mass media. With the
help of personal computers and powerful design software, the
power to become an animator has never been more accessible to
the general public. Computer design software may be accessible
to the public, but the skill required to operate these programs
can take months or years to develop. This may lead those
interested in animation to turn to a professional animator for
instruction. Interested parties may simply hire an animator to
create the perfect animation for the need of the client. Today
animation is becoming a more versatile tool rather than just a
form of entertainment. Artist Illustration can be an integral
part of a website or a multimedia tool used to enhance a
corporate presentation. Many companies are turning to animation
to improve brand image. Animation can also revitalize the image
of a company and assist in market penetration. Illustrators now
have the ability to tailor their services to the specific needs
of its clients. A client may need a banner advertisement placed
on a certain website to increase more traffic and gain more
buyers of a product. Animators also use sophisticated software
to create attractive animated websites that attract buyers and
traffic. These tools can add a new level of professionalism to
an otherwise bland site.

Client Involvement

Many artist illustration services involve the customer from
start to finish. The illustrators keep the client involved in
the creation of the product to insure a final product the client
will approve. This direct line of communication with the client
is vital in maintaining a successful business. Illustrators know
that whether a client wants a sophisticated flash animated
website or a simpler corporate logo must keep the vision of the
client first and foremost. This attention to detail can make or
break the illustrator-client relationship.

Roles of the Artist

Today’s animator is more than just an artist. The animator must
manage all aspects of the cutting-edge industry of design.
Today’s artist must keep current on the technology and industry
trends. This allows the artist to provide the highest level of
service to his/her client base. The animator must also perform
an editorial role. This role allows the artist to interpret the
needs of client and turn them into a finished product. The
illustrator can then create a product that reflects his/her own
personal style while giving the client satisfactory results.
Work, for the artist, is not all about bottom lines and client
approvals, however. The artist has many other outlets that allow
true expression of ideas. These side projects are the true
passion of the artist. These animations give the artist the
latitude to push the limits of his/her ability. These projects
are the pride and joy of the artist and the passion shines
through in these works. Many of these projects go on to win
awards. Others develop a cult following. Whether the artist is
working for the corporate world or working an elaborate side
project, the creativity comes through in all aspects of the
artist’s work. Although the roles of the artist have changed
with the evolution of technology, the drive and passion of
creation remain intact with artists of all genres.

For a web-based audio conference, you will need a computer with an Internet connection, a way to hear and be heard, a video camera for being seen; and the software chosen by the conference moderator.

Your Web browser must be Java-equipped, and your Internet connection must be 56 kbps or faster. Any cable or DSL hookup is good (never use dial-up for web conferencing.)

Audio Conferencing Phones

For your audio linkup, you can either use an Internet-based technology called VoIP, or a telephone, depending on the software your conference is using. VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. It is like a telephone, but instead of being sent analogically through the phone lines, audio is sent digitally via the Internet, at a cost much lower than traditional long distance. In either case, it is recommended that you utilize a comfortable headset with earphones and a microphone. That way, your hands will be free, you will be more comfortable, and your face will be seen by the web cam.

Audio Conferencing Cameras

To be seen by the other users in the web conference, you will need a web cam. Test out the angle and lighting in advance to make sure you are showing up well. Be sure to wear a suit, just as you would in the real world. Relax and smile.

Audio Conferencing Software

Your software can be any of a number of audio conferencing programs. Every user must have the same program or “interface” in order for it to work. Microsoft NetMeeting and GnomeMeeting are two such programs.

Audio Conferencing the Old Fashioned Way

The other way to do audio conferencing is in a group situation. There is a television, a speakerphone or some other communication device, and perhaps some collaborative software. As personal and office computers become more and more powerful, and now that employees or group members have access to such gadgets as web cameras and headsets, audio conferencing will continue to shift to this more economical way of conferencing.

As the name suggests, Web conferencing services are services offered by vendors in terms of arranging online conferences between groups of people who may be situated at different geographical locations. Web conferencing services are increasing in popularity because they allow sharing of information in multiple formats such as presentations, text, voice and even video. Web conferences also allow users to share applications such as a spreadsheet and co-browse Web sites.

Considering the cost savings that Web conferencing can deliver, the market is geared to take off in the next few years. According to a prediction by the Radicati group, a consulting and market research firm, the Web conferencing services market could grow to $2.2 billion by 2007.

An increasing number of companies are now present in the Web conferencing marketing. Some of the leading names include Cisco, GoToMeeting, IBM, Oracle, Batipi, Centra, Elluminate, Genesys, iLinc, Intercall, Interwise, iVocalize, Voxwire Web Conferencing, Linktivity,Raindance Communications, Macromedia, LiveOffice, Netspoke, OpenSpace-Online, WebDialogs, WiredRed amongst several others. In 2003, Microsoft acquired a company called PlaceWare which offered Web conferencing software and renamed it Microsoft Office Live Meeting. It also began phasing out support for NetMeeting.

While selecting a service provider one must take into consideration the features, cost, and the references given by the service provider. The reputation and experience of the provider are important because most of the group communications require that the conference proceeding be secure and free of technical glitches. The conferencing service providers are responsible for security, including SSL encryption, management tools for administration, and installation of solutions that can be set up behind a corporate firewall.

Web conferencing service providers have different models for charging their customers. Some service providers may charge based on the number of participants in the conference, others may charge based on the usage in terms of time.

Web Conferencing provides detailed information on Web Conferencing, Web Conferencing Services, Web Conferencing Software, Web Conferencing Solutions and more. Web Conferencing is affiliated with Live Web Cam.
